Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, the defense lawyer representing one of the accused in the high-profile Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, passed away on December 10, 2024, in the early hours of the morning at a hospital in Vosloorus
Mngomezulu’s family released a heartfelt statement confirming his passing, describing it as an “untimely” and “greatly saddening” event.
They asked for privacy and space to mourn, expressing gratitude for the support and prayers they received.


As a key figure in the trial, Mngomezulu represented Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, one of the five men accused of murdering the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain.
His last court appearance was on October 22, where he wore a face mask and had a fan beside him due to health issues. He had not been appearing in court for a month due to sickness.
Mngomezulu’s passing has sent shockwaves through the legal community and the public following the trial. He was set to cross-examine the lead investigating officer but was unable to do so due to his health.
