Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, is under investigation by the Public Protector, Kholeka Gcaleka, for allegedly misusing public funds during his trip to Paris for the Olympics 2024. The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) filed a complaint with the Office of the Public Protector against Minister McKenzie, citing wasteful expenditure and misuse of public funds ¹.
According to reports, the department spent approximately R800,000 for Minister McKenzie’s trip, with a significant portion of that amount, R400,000, allocated for “ground transport” ¹. The EFF has questioned the necessity of such extravagant spending, prompting the Public Protector to launch an investigation.
This development comes as Minister McKenzie has been advocating for transparency and accountability in government. Ironically, his own actions are now under scrutiny, raising questions about his commitment to these values.
The investigation is ongoing, and it remains to be seen what consequences Minister McKenzie may face if found guilty of misusing public funds.
