Mthatha West Chief Daluxolo Mareke Shot Dead

Controversial Mthatha West traditional leader, Daluxolo Mareke was shot dead during a shootout with police on Wednesday.

According to the police spokesperson, Lt Colonel Siphokazi Mawisa, the chief was one of three armed suspects who were fatally shot during the gun battle at around 16:30 hrs.

Mareke was recently accused of being the mastermind behind the extortion of schools in the area and he denied the allegations, adding that the community was unaware of any cases.
