Zanele Mbokazi Nkambule was born on November 7, 1971 in Durban South Africa. She attended St Francis College for her secondary education and went to UKZN where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Politics. She also got a BA Honours degree in Media and Communications at UKZN and a PR diploma from Damelin.

She began her media career in the 1990s in the reality show Livewire. In 1997 she was a news and current affairs presenter for SABC 1. She also founded her PR company Mirror PR and Events. She also founded the Crown Gospel Awards and hosted the competition Shine in 2010 and Khwezela/Rekindle with Zanele Mbokazi in 2012. In 2023, she returned to UKhozi FM after a 23 year hiatus. She was married to Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule in 2011.

Before that, she was married and got divorced. She also has a daughter called Yolanda. She passed away in the early hours of Monday 12 July 2024 in Parklands hospital in Durban. She had been diagnosed with lung cancer.
