Former Minister Zizi Kodwa Resigns As MP
Former Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa has resigned as a Member of Parliament. This was confirmed by ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula on Thursday. “I have received a letter from Comrade Zizi Kodwa communicating his resignation as a Member of Parliament.
The letter is dated 24 July 2024 and the resignation is with immediate effect. The African National Congress has accepted the letter and wishes Comrade Zizi well, ” he said. Kodwa’s resignation comea amid corruption charges he is facing. In June, he resigned as a Minister and ANC NEC and NWC member after appearing at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s court for corruption charges.
He and Jehan Mackay are facing corruption charges and were granted R30 000 bail each in court. The pair returned to the court on Tuesday and their matter was postponed to August 21 for the state to respond to the application by Kodwa for further particulars.
It is alleged that from April 2015 to February 2016, Kodwa received direct payments and luxury accommodation over R1, 6 million paid and facilitated by Mackay as gratifications for interventions in government procurement processes to advance the interests of Mackay, TSS and EOH.
