Legendary Bafana Bafana coach, Stanley Screamer Tshabalala has passed away at the age of 75. He succumbed to injuries he suffered when he was shot during a break in at his Centurion home in March this year.
Affectionately known as Bra Stan, he died on Thursday in hospital. He was born in Orlando East in Soweto in 1949. He started off as a boxer but found his true passion in football. He joined Kaizer Chiefs as a founding member in 1970.
He was nicknamed Screamer because he always shouted for the ball in the field. He was Bafana Bafana’s first headcoach after South Africa’s readmission to international football in 1992. He was also a technical director at Orlando Pirates in the 2000s.
He was also the father of late kwaito legend Tokollo Magesh Tshabalala of TKzee and Busi Tshabalala. Orlando Pirates shared the news of his death saying, “Orlando Pirates is saddened by the passing of soccer legend Stan Screamer Tshabalala.”
The Sports Minister, Gayton Mckenzie also shared saying, “We remember Stanley Screamer Tshabalala on this sad day and pay tribute to his legacy and contribution that fostered many football talent and teams over several decades. Lala ngoxolo, Bra Stan.” He was shot during a home invasion and after shooting him, the suspects stole laptops and cellphones.
