Police in Gauteng are not ruling out the possibility that the murder of Kaizer Chiefs footballer Luke Fleurs was an assassination staged as a botched hijacking.
Fleurs was shot and killed after being ordered out of his red VW Golf 8 GTI vehicle at a gas station in Honeydew on Wednesday night. Fleurs (24) was confronted by two gunmen who ordered him out of his vehicle in Honeydew while awaiting service from a petrol attendant.
He was shot in the upper body before one of the gummen drove off in his car. Fleurs was taken to a nearby medical facility where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Netizens took to X and shared their thoughts asking if it was an assassination, who could have ordered it and what was the motive. Others speculated that maybe it was jealous friends, family or a jilted lover.
