A film was created based on the late Kwaito star Mandoza who passed away in 2016. Wiseman Mncube and Lorraine Moropa were cast as lead actors.
Mandoza’s Biopic premiered on the 16th of August 2023 on BET Africa. Mpho Tshabalala, who is Mandoza’s widow was part of the Biopic, she was the Executive Producer.
She told SABC NEWS that she took the decision to be the Executive Producer of her late husband’s Biopic because she knew him better thus her contribution was important in the making of the Biopic.
Tshabalala said she met Mandoza in Ezola when they were young. They went on to get married and they had children together. The musician passed away on Tshabalala’s birthday.
Her dedication to honouring her late husband’s life and musical genius inspired many artists.
As Executive Producer she brings her passion and attention to detail and ensures that her late husband’s story is authentic and with the utmost respect.
The late musician’s story “Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza”, will be a lesson to other artists on what is right or wrong, the dos and don’ts, the bad and the good in the entertainment industry after becoming famous.
Mandoza’s legacy and memory still leaves on, he produced hit songs which included Sgelekeqe, Tsotsi Yase Zola, Godoba, Ngalabase, Indoda and many more.
The songs topped the charts and his album “Nkalakatha” which was released in 2000 was the biggest selling album in Mandoza’s career.
