The SAPS VIP Protection Unit officers assigned to Deputy President Paul Mashantile are appearing in court following an incident that occurred a few weeks ago.
The officers assigned to Deputy President Paul Mashantile were allegedly caught on camera assulting members of the public.
It has been revealed that the Deputy President was inside the convoy whe the incident happened.
Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola confirmed that the incident took place on the N1 Freeway in Johannesburg.
Investigations into the matter are underway to ascertain what could have led to such behaviour. Masemola condemned such behaviour saying it is unacceptable.
He told the media that those involved will be held responsible for assault. The deputy President also confirmed that indeed the officers are part of his protection unit.
In the video, a convoy of cars carrying the VIP Protection Unit could be seen stopping on the N1 in Fourways.
They disembarked, and pulled out three occupants from a Blue Polo before assulting them. Three mean were assaulted whilst a lady was left sitting at the back of the car.
