The reclusive Billionaire founder of popular international fast foods chain, Nando’s, died this week of cancer in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Dick Enthoven bought Nandos from its founders, Robbie Brozin and Fernando Duarte, in 1987, before bankrolling its expansion to over 21 countries with over 1300 outlets selling Portuguese chicken.
Dick used Nandos to showcase over 2200 pieces of art.
Dick also owned Spier wine farm which he bought in 1992. His father was a Dutch immigrant who started a small insurance brokerage in South Africa in 1950.
Dick and his brother Patrick transformed the small brockrage into two of the biggest insurance companies in South Africa, Auto and General and Hollard.
Dick was born on 1937 and graduated at Stellenbosch University before working for Loyyds in London.
In 1999, he moved to Sydney where he established Hollard and was appointed the President of the Australian Council of Insurance in 2017.
