Limpopo Health MEC Dr. Phophi Ramathuba is trending on social following her encounter with a Zimbabwean patient in a Bela-Bela hospital in Limpopo Province.
The MEC called out foreigners for jumping the border to seek health care in South Africa a situation that is creating a strain on the available resources meant for the locals.
Phophi said the budget from the national treasurer is meant for the over 90 percent of Limpopo people without medical aid.
She added that the situation was angering the locals because of shortages in resources. Phophi said foreigners were burdening the health system.
Economic Freedom Fighters MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi called this MEC’s actions xenophobic.
However South Africans are rallying behind Phophi who revealed that the situation is bad from Musina. She visited the border post with Aaron Motsoaledi, the Minister of Home Affairs.
