SABC NEWS reported that seven people were shot and killed on a farm near Kestell, in the Eastern part of Free State Province.
Police Spokesperson Motantsi Makhele said the owner of the farm found the dead bodies of six women and a man inside their house.
He said they are still to be formally identified, and the motive behind the killing is not yet known. The Provincial Organised Crime Unit is still searching for the suspects.
The incident follows a series of shootings across the country. In the past two weeks dozens of people were shot dead on separate occasions.
Several people were shot dead in a Pietermaritzburg tavern, dozens were shot and killed at a tavern in Orlando East, Soweto and several others were shot dead in Alex.
