The fraud, corruption and money laundering trial of former president Jacob Zuma is set to get underway today at the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

Zuma’s latest bid to have lead Prosecutor Billy Downer removed from his trial had failed after the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed it last month.

The former head of state and his legal team are now planning to pursue a private prosecution.

Zuma is accused of receiving bribes from a French Arms company Thales between 1995 and 2004.

Zuma’s allies including suspended ANC Secretary General Ace Magashule is expected to be at the Court as a show of support to the former President.
