The body of former rugby player Lindani Myeni is expected to arrive home tomorrow for burial in his hometown of Esikhaleni, near Richards Bay.
The family spokesperson Nonhlanhla Myeni said a press conference will be held today at the Union Buildings in Pretoria ahead of the body’s arrival.
Myeni’s body is expected to arrive at the OR Tambo airport tomorrow.
She said only family members would be allowed at the event to receive the body. Myeni was shot and killed earlier this month by the police in Honolulu, Hawaii.
The US police who shot him after allegedly mistaking him for a suspect in a bulgary. The former rugby player was apparently unarmed when he was shot.
The police said Myeni entered a home in Nuuanu area where the home owners got upset and called the authorities on him.
His wife Lindsay was beyond overwhelmed and devastated following the passing of her husband. Lindsay and their two children have been waiting for Myeni’s body to arrive in South Africa.
Myeni’s death was described as yet another case of racial discrimination against Black people in the United States.
