In a new twist, the City Press newspaper reports that a Sandton woman has approached South African Investigators to confess that she helped Bushiri escape to Malawi through Beitbridge.
The woman, who says she had a two year love affair with Bushiri, has Bushiri’s clothes at her house as proof that she is telling the truth.
The woman, who is a member of Bushiri’s congregation, has written a sworn affidavit and has asked for protection before her identity is revealed.
According to her account, the woman said this is how Bushiri escaped:
9 November – Bushiri calls the woman asking for assistance.
10 November (11am) – Mary Bushiri was driven to the woman ‘s House at Embassy towers, Sandton.
10 November (2pm) – Bushiri, Mary, and the woman leave for Limpopo from Carlswald. They arrived in Limpopo and booked at a lodge.
11 November (1am) – Bushiri and Mary leave the lodge for Beitbridge in another car.
Bushiri’s lover said she gave Bushiri R20 000 before he left.
She also claimed that one of Bushiri’s aides named Sylvester, took Mary’s phone which had been left at her apartment.
