Poet Zakes Mda was disappointed by Nomzamo Mbatha’s overall presence on Coming to America especially her fake accent. Zakes did not seem to understand why Nomzamo did not just use her South African accent because it is African anyway.
He said he would go with the accent if it was an imaginary accent for an imaginary country but its a generic accent that African Americans use when they play African characters weather they are Ugandan, Nigerian or South African.
Eddie Murphy on the other hand seems to believe that his African accent was on point until he met Nomzamo whose accent made him believe otherwise.
Eddie Murphy said in an interview that working with Nomzamo was great and that Nomzamo made him realise that his African accent was horrible as she came with the real one.
