The Independent reports that Afriforum private prosecutor, Gerrie Nel, has written to the NPA accusing them of dragging their feet since October, when Kelly Khumalo was first implicated by the family as the mastermind behind the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.
Nel said the family was informed by the police minister, when he visited in October, that the killing of Senzo was not a robbery, but a contract killing.
Nel said he is surprised that the case is now being transferred on an indictment as a robbery that went wrong.
NPA Spokesman, Sipho Ngwenya told the newspaper that the Prosecutor had gone through the docket with a fine tooth comb and believes there is insufficient evidence to add another accused to the matter.
Ngwenya said the prosecution will not take decisions based on perceived pressure from interest groups. He said the National Director Of Public Prosecutions, Adv Shamila Batohi will respond to Nel’ s letter soon.
