Thembinkosi Mthembu (26), who plays the role of Mabutho in The River, spoke to the Sowetan about the death of his sister, who was killed by her boyfriend.
Mthembu said his sister was murdered by her ex boyfriend in 2017 after she broke up with him.
After her death, Mthembu says he fell into depression and starred to drink heavily. He says he still struggles to come to terms with her murder.
At the time, Mthembu was a student at the Durban Umiversity of technology where he was studying for a diploma in drama.
Mthembu told the Sowetan that he moved to Johannesburg in 2018, where he did odd jobs as a bartender at Shakers Cocktail Bar in Maboneng and a Cell C agent, before he got his first role in The Republic in 2019.
