The Premier of Mpumalanga, Refilwe Mtsweni, who shocked South Africans after she appeared at Jackson Mthembu funeral without her mask, now faces arrest.
Mshweni-Tsipane, in her apology said she did not know her mask was off when she stepped out of her official car at the cemetery in Emalahleni yesterday.
According to New Covid-19 regulations, failure to wear mask is an offence whose fine is R1500 or up to 6 months imprisonment.
Many South Africans were amazed to see Mtsweni Tsipane if without her mask as she walked all over the place greeting everyone , hugging and being jovial.
South Africa Police Minister, Bheki Cele says the Mtswqeni Tsipane must be investigated as the wearing of masks in public is not negotiable.
Writing on Facebook, the South Africa Police Service said:
Police Minister calls for investigation into conduct of Mpumalanga Premier at a funeral.
Minister Cele says the not wearing of masks in public, is a non-negotiable.
“If South Africa wants to beat this invisible enemy which is COVID-19, we simply can’t let our guard down. This is why I have spoken to the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Khehla Sitole to look into the matter of the Premier and an investigation must be conducted and necessary action must be investigated.
