The King of Bapedi Victor Thulare III of the Bapedi Kingdom in Limpopo has passed on at the age of 40.
Thulare’s death comes just after 8 months of his recognition by President Cyril Ramaphosa as the King of Bapedi. This after a long court battle with his uncle over the throne.
Thulare was the son of the late Bapedi King Rhyane Thulare who died in 2007 when Victor was too young to take over the crown.
As a result his uncle ascended the throne in acting capacity while waiting for Thulare to become older.
In 2019, the constitutional court finally declared, Victor Thulare as the rightful heir to the throne.
According to the statement issued by the family, the King passed on in the early hours of Wednesday morning at a private hospital in Pretoria.
His cause of death was not confirmed but there were speculations that he succumbed to Covid-19 related illnesses.
Condolences are pouring in from various social groupings, EFF also issued a statement sending their condolences to the royal family.
