Government spokesperson Phumla Williams revealed during a virtual interview with Newzroom Afrika that South Africa has not yet submitted Bushiri’s extradition request.
She said South Africa has an extradition treaty it signed with Malawi and it also has a good working relationship with the government of Malawi thus she believes they will respond to South Africa’s request.
Williams revealed that the processing of the extradition documents was at an advanced stage last week.
Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor refuted a report by Sunday Independent that accuses her of being involved in a plot to help Shepherd Bushiri and his wife to escape.
Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary are facing charges of theft, fraud and money laundering.
